ONE of Mutare’s legendary club disc jockey, Tichaona Zhuwau better known as DJ Fresh will be honoured tomorrow (Saturday) as he celebrates his 44th birthday at their bar Poshto De Fronteira, located along the road to Machipanda border post to Mozambique.
DJ Fresh who is the co-director of Poshto De Fronteira has been in the entertainment industry for the past 23 years. His co-partner Obey ‘Big Fish’ Hove said he wanted to celebrate his friends 44th birthday in grand style to revel his achievements in the industry over the years.
From humble beginnings DJ Fresh rose from being a mere passionate club DJ to run some of the top entertainment centres that rocked the eastern border city’s night life such as Pavilion Leisure Centre and Soul City. DJ Fresh and Big Fish have over the years made a name for themselves in the entertainment circles in Manicaland with their entertainment stable G3 Big Fun Entertainment.
From early 2000 to around 2007, their entertainment stable would tour around the province organizing gigs. However in 2008 they spread their tentacles and opened an open-air club, Pavilion Leisure Centre, which became a leading outdoor entertainment spot.
In 2009 they opened another club, Sports Café, which later rebranded to Soul City, which also became one of the clubbing hotspots in Mutare. Pavilion on the other hand eventually closed in December 2009 following rental wrangles with Mutare Polytechnic, the owners of the premises.
Big Fish said they have been through many ups and downs and now want to relive their midas touch as top entertainers at their new spot, Poshto De Fronteira. “It has been a tough journey to get where we are. Starting a business in 2008 was a bold decision especially back then during the hyper-inflation days. We revolutionized the concept of open-air entertainment and we are proud of that up-to-date. Many revelers from as far as Bulawayo would come to Mutare for a weekend outing at Pavilion,” said Hove.
He said the bash for DJ Fresh will be a prelude of bigger events to come as they want to re-brand their leisure centre to become a leading entertainment spot.
