A united Africa remains a pipe dream even though Africa Day religiously commemorated each year by Member States of the African Union 56-years after the formation of the African Union in 1963.

MULTICHOICE Africa this year commemorated Africa Day in a special way by producing short clips narrating what Africa Day means to it and African story tellers on the continent 56-years after the formation of the pan African union.
Last Saturday Zimbabwe along with other 53 African Union (AU) Member States commemorated Africa Day, which is celebrated on the 25th of May every year, remembering the founding of the pan-Africanist Organisation of African Unity (OAU) back in 1963.
As a Member State, in Zimbabwe, Africa Day is therefore a national public holiday. In 2002, the OAU changed to be known as the African Union. Back in 1963 the OAU conference showcased progress of liberation movements on the African continent in addition to symbolising the determination of the people of Africa to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation.
Present-day, though ‘real’ union among African states has not fully materialized to meaningfully develop the continent, notable strides have been made to break barriers and drive the efforts to fulfill the vision of African unity, democracy and peace, of which the film industry is one such sector where African stories are now being told by Africans unlike before.
