THE 2019 Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) annual business awards for the Manicaland chapter were held last week Friday at the Golden Peacock Villa Hotel in Mutare and the winners in each category will compete for top hounors at the national awards which will be held during the ZNCC annual congress in Victoria Falls that will run from next week Wednesday to Friday.
The night saw some new players winning awards whilst some previous winners bounced back, a sign that the economy is very competitive and open to new entrepreneurs with innovative business concepts. The fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) distribution company Mega Market was the biggest winner of the evening after it scooped the Outstanding Investment award whilst its director Muhammed Shiraan Ahmed reclaimed the Businessman of the Year award which he once received in 2016.
The Businesswoman of the Year went to Patience Maruni of the real estate development company KMP Holdings whilst the former teacher, Chipo Chitowa from Mutasa scooped the Rural Businessman of the Year with Knowledge Murigwa of Blutech Technologies walking away with the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. The Lifetime Achievement Award that was posthumous to Hlanganiso Matangaidze received a befitting recognition given his vast contribution to the growth of the business landscape in the province as a national ZNCC past president in 2014 and proactive businessman that served in various public bodies including being a special councilor at one point.
Special categories were added such as the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award which was won by the Tendai Chitowa Foundation recently formed in 2017 and the Outstanding Resilient Young Entrepreneur award accorded to Lloyd Mapunga of Towers Properties. The resilient young entrepreneur award recognized outstanding young entrepreneurs that inherit family businesses and were able to not only sustain them but also expand the business empire whilst the CSR award recognized efforts by indigenous businesspeople towards philanthropic work without international donor funds.
The Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba was the guest of honour whilst the ZNCC national president Tamuka Macheka and Mayor of Mutare Clr Blessing Tandi also graced the awards.
